Sometimes I watch movie clips with no sound and try to read the actor’s lips. Sometimes I close my eyes and try to walk around my apartment doing laundry. I dramatically fail at doing both.
Derrick Coleman failed a lot too, but he pressed on. He didn’t let the naysayers steal his dream, he made them into fuel for his passion.
And yet, so often, we allow failure to alter our path. We let setbacks become pity parties and mistakes become a tantrum of anger, believing we are the victim.
That’s exactly what Derrick Coleman didn’t do.
He defied the odds, he made the most out of what he was given, he pressed on through the difficulties. Not without setbacks, not without failure. But his eyes always saw the prize.
Setbacks aren’t crippling, they are simply the loading of a slingshot, pulling you back, readying you to propel into your future beyond what you ever thought you could do.
